HELIX Classroom

In-person students participate in the classroom on campus.  Live online students join the class virtually through Zoom displayed on large monitors and seamlessly interact with students in the classroom.

On-demand students watch professional recordings of the class on their own schedule and interact at non-class times using online discussion tools.

Talk to your on-demand students through the camera. Welcome them to class and let them know you remember they are there.

Ask your live online students for specific input. The more often you call on them, the more likely they are to attend in real time.

Ask your in-person students to let you know if someone on Zoom is raising their hand.

Include your live online students in conversation before class and during breaks.

Find a comment from an on-demand student that you’d like to highlight. Refer to the student who wrote the comment by name and describe their contribution to class. You’ll be bringing them into the room even if they can’t be there!

When live students work in small groups, either in the classroom or in groups in Zoom, describe into the camera how on-demand students can participate later. Should they post to a discussion board, for example?

Working in a fully blended classroom can be a very natural extension of traditional teaching practice. Our technicians will start the Zoom session each week and be available to address any issues so that you can focus on teaching.
