HELIX Live Stream

Make Your Course Flexible with HELIX Live Stream

Stream your course live from anywhere on campus.

Whether you’re teaching a course at Harvard College or a class specifically for DCE/Extension students, your class meetings will broadcast out to students with no audio or video delay so they can view your lectures and your course materials in real time.

Clear up confusion in real time. Your students can communicate with the classroom through text-based chat so they can ask questions as they arise.

Consider asking a TA to monitor the chat during class and become the “voice” of online students. The TA can speak on behalf of the online students by asking their questions for them so that you can address them live in class.

Remember your on-demand students. Many of your students are likely to attend “on-demand” -- meaning that they can access your course videos on their own schedule (although they are expected to keep up with all class assignments just like your other students).

These students need ways to interact as well. Consider creating a Q&A discussion board in your Canvas site so these students can ask questions. Or incorporate other discussion tools so that all of your students can talk to each other outside of class.

Make section meetings interactive. While your HELIX Live Stream students can watch the course in real time, but participate only via text-based chat, section meetings can be held live over Zoom web conference.

Using Zoom web conference, students from around the world and your TAs leading the section can all see and hear each other and speak in real time.
